Inside Scoop

Hello lovelies!
Recently, I've been receiving the sweetest emails requesting tips on videography, and related questions about getting a business started! So please excuse me, as I may get a little nerdy sounding over here... :)

FAQ's:
What camera & lenses do you use?
I film with my Cannon 7D and my favorite lenses at the moment are my 50mm, 70-200mm, & the 10-22mm.

What editing software do you work with?
I edit all my videos in Final Cut Pro 7 (Yes thats right, I tried 10 and didn't like it!) And I edit all my photos in Photoshop CS5.

How did you get started, did you go to school?
I've had such a fascination with videography since a very young age - I started by filming my barbies, and sneaking our family video camera to elementary school. Then over the years I got a little more serious with it, purchasing better equipment... Finding cinematography books to study...  Then I studied at UVU for a semester (I didn't last long! Whoops.), and then really became self taught after that. I felt happier going at a faster pace on my own, studying books, and having lots of hands on experiences.

What advice would you give to somebody wanting to start their own business?
Have confidence, and be yourself! What makes you unique is that you are you, and nobody else. Go outside of your comfort zone, and get your name out there! Don't be nervous if things don't boom at first - if you keep producing products you are proud of, things will fall into place, I promise!

I hope you aspiring videographers or business owners found this helpful - I would like to eventually have a FAQ section here on my blog - not only about videography but about anything, so ask away! I would appreciate to hear any feedback. :)
Love you all!
xo

  1. Seriously, I looked through a ton of your videos. I love you "About Us" video - so fun!! If I could do anything, I think it would be videography - I've always wanted to start. I've tried a little bit with family videos, but our camera is so horrible, haha! I've always toyed with the idea of trying to go serious with it, though. Granted, that's years away, but I still think it'd be cool!

And I have a question for you! Yay! So how do you guys get these jobs all over the world? What kind of films do you primarily do for your clients that has you traveling so much? I think it's pretty sweet.

    1. Rachel! Brad and I both have family in different countries so that helps with our international wedding business, but as far as corporate clients... I do a lot of work for a network marketing company who has events all around the world, so they pay us to go out there and film for them. :)

  2. You are too cute. Seriously.

This video is great! Here's a question for you - How did the 3 of you first decide, "Hey, we should start a business together!" ? I'm always curious about what motivates people to really go out and *do* things that most people just talk about doing forever, but never actually get around to.

    1. Haha! Well, my brother Trevor had already been in the industry for a while (he's ten years older than me, crazy right?) and asked me if I wanted to partner with him when I got out of highschool! Then Brad joined us when we got engaged last year. :) So I guess it all happened more over time, rather than just over night.

  3. This is great! Thanks for the words of encouragement-- I'm really excited about the future of my writing, my husband's filming career, and future blog growth, but I really just need to kick back and do what I love and I know I will find success no matter how it is measured.

I love that your husband films along with you and your brother. Has he been interested in that all his life too, or did you and your family get him into that? And are you from Europe as well? You said you have relatives there, but your whole love story is just so fascinating and makes me want to know more! Welp, hope that was a complicated enough question for you. ;)

    1. Magnolia! Aw, thats great! You're husband is into film, too? Brad has been super interested in photography his whole life, but has such a deep appreciation for music - I introduced videography to him (as being more than a hobby) because it would be a way he could combine the two things he loves, and it just kinda stuck! Brad is from the UK, and I'm from here (Utah) but my Dad is Norwegian. :) Thanks for dropping by! xo

  11. Actually, I do have a question! What are the guidelines for using music in your videos? Sometimes different kinds of copyright are hard to wrap your head around... Anyway I was wondering what your knowledge/experience on the subject was, especially because the music in your videos is always perfect!

    1. Hi Chely! Funny video! Thanks for sharing. I started off by filming engagement videos for some friends in highschool, which brought on wedding clients, which brought on commercial/corporate clients. :) Best of luck!!

  19. So I have two questions!

    1. What are all the countries you have been to?! I know you travel all the time! I mean I met you on an airplane, and I'm sure I'm not the first to run into at the airport haha.

    2. What is your background? I mean you just filmed your cousin who doesn't live in the United States. Were you born here in the U.S.? Are your parents from out of the country?

    Also, you're adorable.

      1. Oh yeah! Were you the one I met on the plane going to Vegas!? Such a small world :) Here's the countries/places I've been blessed to visit: Alaska, Japan, Hawaii, Hungary, Norway, England, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico & Tahiti - it has been such an adventure!

      2. My mom is american and my Dad is Norwegian, I was born here in the states - lived here my entire life! :)

      Thanks for stopping by! xoxo

  21. I absolutely adore your blog & instagram! My young women's group watched your video about you waiting for Brad a long time ago & I am so incredibly happy that you two ended up together! We were all in tears when we found out!
Anyways, this may be a bit personal, but I was wondering how old you two were when you got engaged/married? My boyfriend and I are planning on getting engaged sometime soon and I'm 18 and he's 21 (we're LDS too!). Some people tell us that we are way too young & too new of a couple, & others say that once you're this happy, nothing should stop you. Thoughts?
(sorry this is so lengthy... I tend to get carried away! )

  22. I love your videos! I only ever saw the missionary one with Brad like a year ago! They're all amazing. So unique and detailed. I was wondering if you guys had like internship or something for your business. I want to learn more about videography, I read books about it but thats pretty much it. I am saving up for a camera. Anyway love your blog!
